THE CREATIVE SPIRIT
In creativity we are called to be utterly true to ourselves, unswayed by the opinions of others. We cannot remain bound by roles or expectations, and are continuously challenged to act freely. In this, the creative journey holds a possibility for both inner discovery and authentic expression. "In painting I am confronted with how I live my life. It challenges me to open, trust and be honest. It requires that I not enforce preconceived ideas of what should be, of what beauty is, or what art is. I am shown, color by color, brush stroke by brush stroke how to yield like a willow, how to stand like a redwood. When I judge what I see, I learn to embrace; when I fall in love, I learn to let go. I am taught about black, about gray, about clashing and blending, about light and ease, about beautiful and ugly. Always, I am taught about "dont know". In painting I am confronted with how I live my life. It challenges me to open, trust and be honest. It requires that I not enforce preconceived ideas of what should be, of what beauty is, or what art is."
